Big Chop?
Have any of you started your locs with relaxers? Did you have a big chop? Have you always been natural?
I started mine with a relaxer in, and I’m wondering how others went about it! ~ Celestial-Fox

I've been M.I.A?
I was recently in the hospital and just got discharged yesterday, new posts coming sooon! And I’ve never realized how convenient having dreadlocks was as a hairstyle when you’re sick. Even if they’re still a tad messy, you can still rock them out!
Feel free to submit pictures of your locks! Here!

blackbeatnik asked: Thanks! I was just wondering what products you recommend for moisturizing and such. I just got them started yesterday so I won't do anything to them today or probably tomorrow. But I was wondering because I know I can't do the same things I did when I had my fro right?

The great debate: How often do you wash your locs?
The other day I watched a video of someone with dreadlocks that had an immense amount of build up in his locs, it was actually quite disturbing lol(click here to watch). I think that some dreadheads carry the mentality that they can be completely free of maintenance with their hair as soon as they get dreadlocks. I believe that dreadlocks can require less amounts of attention than regular hair...

Tying down my hair at night
Ever since I have started to tie my hair down with a satin scarf each night. I’ve realized that the condition of my locs has improved tremendously. It has helped by keeping the moisture in my locs, which is imperative during winter season. Also, the itchiness I felt before doing so, has gone down, as well as the dryness.
I would recommend tying your down every night before bed, however...

onside-b asked: I think my dreads are too dry. Some of the ends of my hair have those little white bulbs if you know what I mean. I used to get them when I straightened my hair and was damaging it. Sooo, if this is due to my hair being damaged, do you have any suggestions on how to moisturize it without putting too much gunky product in my hair. Right now I just wash it and then use suave conditioner. Thank you...

Dreadlocks: 1 years old ?
Now that I have reached a year I have gained an entire new perspective on my locs. Near the beginning of my loc journey, I began on a path of being completely obsessive with my locs. To put it bluntly, the only regard that I held for my locs, at the time, was seeking some form of immediate perfection, as I entrenched onto my journey. This key sense of perfection lead me from one source to the...

Constant Need to Touch My Dreads?
Ever since my dread journey has started, I have developed the habit to constantly touch my dreads. Whether it be retwisting, feeling the texture, or fluffing them out. Although I do most of this at home, I am concerned that I am carrying these habits outside the home. It’s like I believe that doing this will help my dreads to lock faster/look nicer lol.

before-we-all-burn answered your question: Have you ever had an awkward situation trying to talk about your dreadlocks?
Every single day! Basically the same stuff as you tried to explain, and ALWAYS ends with me saying how YES I do in fact wash my dreads.
Glad I’m not alone! It’s kinda embarrassing too, eh? A very uncomfortable feeling >_<.

Have you ever had an awkward situation trying to...
So, over the winter break, I had gone out with some friends. Over dinner, the conversation slowly turned towards the subject of hair, I do not recall how though. So, of course the discussion turned towards my dreads. As I was trying to explain how dreadlocks are formed and how I keep them intact, there appeared to be quizzical looks upon their faces. I had never felt so awkward in explaining my...

Twisting vs Interlocking?
So yesterday, instead of doing my usual retwist after I have washed my locs, I decided to do a little research regarding interlock. For those of you of who do not know the what interlocking is, it is a method which basically consists of weaving your dread into the new growth of hair, creating a form of knots that allows your new growth to be immediately locked in place.
After, watching a few...

alexandracaprice:
In the nine and one half months that I’ve had my dreads I’ve heard more ignorance come out of people’s mouths than I ever have in my 19 (almost 20) years of existence. And since I haven’t really done any updates on my dread journey, like I thought I would, I had this fabulous idea to make a list…

1. How old are your dreads?
Mine are 3 days older than yours. I got them Feb 2
2. How many dreadlocks do you have?
LOL that involves counting.. I’d say between 160-200
3. How long are they?
My dreads grow slow, and most are about 3 inches long
4. Why did you decide to get them?
I don’t like being part of a system. its nice to be unique and I’m the only one at school...

Unpopular opinion time...
thelsp333:
I think dreadlocks are ugly and disgusting. Of course everyone is allowed to do whatever they wish to their hair. I just don’t find the look appealing.
That is a pretty ignorant statement. Dreadlocks can be just as versatile as normal hair. There are many people with dreadlocks that keep their hair clean, and take just as much care of it as you do “normal” hair. Like...

bagels-and-coffee asked: I'm thinking about getting dreads and I need help with knowing how to start without screwing it up. I've currently got a pixie cut so I'm waiting til the end of the year (maybe longer) to get them. It worries me because everyone I talk to -even my bosses- say I'll never get a job or get into Hotel Management College with them :(

Loc'd Hair Care Regimen Experiment
So recently I have been researching on different natural methods of maintaining and strengthening my dreadlocks. In the near future I hope to follow this regimen I came up with, as soon as I am able to get a hold on these ingredients.
Based on my research this is the routine I look forward to use for maintaining my locks in the future:
Daily moisturize using Sweet Almond Oil by rubbing through...

Different ways to use Avocado Oil on Locs/Hair
How to Use Avocado Oil for Hair You can either use organic avocado oil or pure avocado oil for hair. Both are equally penetrative, beneficial and are also easily available, but organic avocado oil has a longer shelf life as compared to pure avocado oil. You can buy avocado oil from any grocery store, but make sure you check the manufacturing details thoroughly. To use avocado oil for hair...

Rosemary Hair Rinse For Locs
Rosemary can be used to strengthen hair, and get rid of dandruff.
Here is a recipe I found for a rinse to strengthen your hair/locs.
I plan on trying this myself when I have the time, and would like to see the results that I may get, since I do suffer from dry and itchy scalp.
Recipe/Instructions:
Place herb in a medium-sized glass pitcher.
Pour boiling water over the rosemary leaves. Let...

Natural Oils To Try On Locs
I have started to accumulate a list of natural oils that are good for hair/locs as well as promote hair growth, and healthiness within my dreads:
Rosemary Oil:
“Rosemary is reputed to promote the growth and thickness of your hair.
It can also darken hair over a period of time and so is useful for covering grey hair. If you have long hair, then this is better than dying. It won’t work as...
