Dreadlocks: 1 years old ?

Now that I have reached  a year I have gained an entire new perspective on my locs.  Near the beginning of my loc journey, I began on a path of being completely obsessive with my locs. To put it bluntly, the only regard that I held for my locs, at the time, was seeking some form  of immediate perfection, as I entrenched onto my journey. This key sense of perfection lead me from one source to the next. While I aspired to have the locs of the photos of mature dreadlocks that floated around the web, for awhile I forgot the mere reason that lead me to get them in the first place.

Being completely obsessed with my hair, I believe, was quite unhealthy. Thus, creating the irony; being that starting my locks was to acquire healthy hair and mind in the first place.

In the beginning I thought the “perfect dreadlocks”  equated to uniform, smooth, and long parted locks. However, as my journey progressed my current thoughts greatly differed from my initial opinion.

My locs now currently have bumps, are not evidently parted, short, and somewhat un-uniformed, and guess what?…I LOVE IT!

I have reached a point of realization, where my locs should and will acquire a unique form and character of it’s own. And recognizing that it does, has a been a highlight within this 1 year.

As of right now, I am currently semi-free forming, and switching to the interlocking method. In the beginning, I would have thought that retwisting was the only way to go. And that neat locs could only be obtained through constant retwisting and palm rolling.

As my dread journey continues, I know that i will learn to love my locs even more, and will hopefully gain more and  insightful wisdom regarding my them.
