The great debate: How often do you wash your locs?

The other day I watched a video of someone with dreadlocks that had an immense amount of build up in his locs, it was actually quite disturbing lol(click here to watch). I think that some dreadheads carry the mentality that they can be completely free of maintenance with their hair as soon as they get dreadlocks. I believe that dreadlocks can require less amounts of attention than regular hair depending on how manicured you plan to keep them. However, washing your locs are still imperative to keeping your hair healthy.

Now that my locks have matured more, I can wash them more frequently. I usually do a daily rinse and shampoo them once a week.

If your are interested in washing less frequently then it is important to limit the amount of products that you use in your hair to avoid build up.

  2. snakehair answered: i don’t put any products in my locs, so i don’t wash them. hair cleans itself if you just let it be
  3. pippip-khir-e-oh answered: every 2-4 weeks. about the same as when I had loose hair actually.

  5. fearfullymade-locs answered: I wash as frequently as possible depending on the condition of my eczema. If it isn’t flaring up, then I try to stretch the interim period.
